Jilly Evans is a biochemist who is a director at Merck Research Laboratories in Pennsylvania. She helped develop the successful anti-asthmatic drug, Singulair and the novel arthritis and pain medication, Vioxx. Dr Sheila Ochugboju Dr Sheila Ochugboju

Sheila Ochugboju is project development manager with London-based company Focus Consultancy where she manages public health projects in such areas as ethnic health policy, sickle cell, diabetes control and HIV/AIDS prevention. Previously, on a fellowship at Oxford University, she looked at ways of developing alternatives to chemical pesticides. Margaret Wertheim is an internationally noted science writer and commentator who has written extensively about science and society for magazines, television and radio. She is the author of Pythagoras' Trousers: God, physics and the gender wars and The Pearly Gates of Cyberspace, a history of space from Dante to the Internet . Originally from Australia, Margaret now lives in Los Angeles.

She was one of four people (and the only scientist) appointed to the Royal Commission on Genetic Modification, whose year-long inquiry was regarded as the most extensive yet to be held anywhere in the world.

Professor Dame Anne Salmond DBE, CBE, FRSNZ, PhD Professor Dame Anne Salmond DBE, CBE, FRSNZ, PhD

Anne Salmond is Distinguished Professor of Maori Studies and Social Anthropology, and Pro Vice Chancellor (Equal Opportunity) at the University of Auckland. She has won three Wattie Book of the Year awards as well as numerous prestigious fellowships and international prizes.
