Funding Sources
AWIS is self-funding and does not administer funds to support either research or sponsor science-related activity. However, we have put together a brief list of potential funding avenues below and recommend that you also search the internet for a more comprehensive list.
The Royal Society maintains an up-to-date list of funding sources.
Traditional funding for large scientific projects comes from The Foundation for Research, Science and Technology.
"Traditional sources"
Health Research Council, Cancer Society, Neurological Foundation etc. are well advertised, especially through University Research Offices.

Zonta
Small travel and publication grants only. Local groups have regular meetings.

Business and Professional Women's Clubs
Altrusa Clubs, Rotary, Lions and YWCAs. Smaller, specific projects. Market yourself and be prepared to meet with groups.

New Horizons for Women Trust
Aims to provide grants for NZ women to develop their potential through education and training or to undertake research on issue relating to women. Two main awards: Rita King Award for Second Chance Education and Training and the New Horizons Research Award.

Royal Society of New Zealand
See local branches often have travel scholarships. National body has more.

National Science Societies
NZ Soc Endocrinology, Physiological Soc, NZ Soc Biochem & Mol Bioetc often provide small grants, usually conference travel, especially for students.
Industry
From cheese to chemical manufacturers to roofing tile suppliers, there may be an industry link or interest in your research. Think laterally and promote yourself.
Public Trusts
Solicitors often have discretionary monies from wills and estates.
