BSc(Hons), Dip Tchg, PhD in Immunology

Senior Scientist @ AgResearch Ruakura

Liz is an immunologist at AgResearch Ruakura.  Liz leads a research group working on the development of Hyperimmune Milk through vaccination of dairy cows.  The project involves basic research through to addressing questions on commercialisation of a high-value dairy product.  Liz was a secondary school science teacher in Dunedin for two years, before working on a PhD in Immunology, based in Australia.  She has since worked in New Zealand, Kenya and Scotland, in research labs with a vaccine interest.  Liz was awarded the NZ Association of Scientists Science Communicator Award in 2006 as recognition for her involvement with school and community groups in the Waikato region. She is a past convenor of the national Association for Women in the Sciences and is the Waikato branch convenor. Liz keeps busy in her ‘spare time’ - singing in two choirs, learning latin American dancing, gardening and supporting the Junior Naturalist club – a club for 11-17 year olds interested in ecology, conservation and science.
