I've been at the Listener for five years, mostly as a staff writer, though I started as a sub editor. Before the Listener, I edited Salient, Victoria University's student magazine - I'm a Wellingtonian in Auckland for my job. Since I've been writing for the Listener, I've covered environment/science stories, including a weekly "Ecologic" column. My background isn't in science, however - I studied English and politics at Uni. I'm hoping to take some science papers, though, depending on job demands. Meanwhile, I feel like I'm getting the best education - meeting so many scientists from so many different fields through my job, I love hearing about research straight from the people who are doing that work, and getting a sense of live science, that isn't the dry, dusty book-bound thing it can be to laypeople.
Otherwise, I'm 32, partner but no kids except a super-cute niece and a nephew on the way and I've just taken up knitting, disastrously.
