At the AGM we will consider and vote on the changes to the constitution summarised below, please download the constitution with highlighted changes for more detail. If you would like to have input on these changes but are unable to attend the AGM please email

Section 2 Interpretation - additional science categories listed
Section 4.6 Corporate Members - please review conditions of membership and additional membership category
Section 5.4 Subscriptions - please review changes to conditions for funding branch activities
Sections 7.2 and 7.3 Office Holders - added new sections to reflect the suggested additional office holders
Sections 8.8 - 8.11 National Executive - consolidated sections for ease of understanding
Section 9 Branches - combined with Section 18 (Regions) to improve consistency in terminology
Section 10 Non Profit Status - included provision for a paid EA
Section 12.7 General Meeting - clarification of voting process
Section 15.3 Control of Funds - modification of approval process and signatories
Other - additional minor spelling and wording changes.

Exec members will also be nominated at the AGM.


If you’ve got some ideas of what AWIS could do, or would like to make a difference to women in science, then consider joining the AWIS Executive. You can give as little or as much time as you’re able, but new ideas and thoughts are welcome and encouraged.

Positions available on the Executive are:

National Convenor – main AWIS contact, responsible for leading discussion on AWIS activities and assisting regional convenors (end of term for current National Convenor)
Secretary – secondary AWIS contact, responsible for managing incoming mail and drafting minutes of meetings and discussions
Treasurer – responsible for managing AWIS financial activities and records
Membership Secretary – responsible for managing AWIS’ electronic membership database
Editor – manage content for AWIS website and monthly e-newsletter
Regional Convenor – responsible for organising AWIS activities in specified region:
· Auckland
· Waikato
· Palmerston North
· Wellington
· Nelson
· Christchurch
· Dunedin

If you won't be at the AGM simply fill in the nomination form and get it back to by 27 June. You can nominate yourself for more than one position, and members attending the AGM will be asked to vote if more than one nomination is received for a position.
