Margaret Brimble named 2012 Rutherford Medallist

Margaret Brimble, Professor of Organic and Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Auckland, has been named the 2012 Rutherford Medallist.

Margaret is the second female scientist to be awarded the Royal Society's highest honour, after last year's medallist Christine Winterbourn. Margaret was awarded the medal at the New Zealand Research Honours dinner for her contributions to the synthesis of bioactive natural products, including a drug for traumatic brain injury funded by the US Army. She was also awarded the MacDiarmid Medal for outstanding scientific research that could have large human benefit and the Hector Medal for excellence in chemical sciences.
