National Quiz raises $18,000 for scholarship

Christchurch team Sarahentripity, a group from the University of Canterbury’s School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, were named the AWIS National Quiz Champions, during an evening that raised more than $18,000 to support women in science.

Fifty seven teams competed simultaneously across the nation – answering the same questions under the same rules - to raise money for the Association for Women in the Sciences’ Women in STEM scholarship. Each of the five venues – in Auckland, Wellington, Tasman, Christchurch and Dunedin – also ran raffles and silent auctions, with prizes donated by local businesses; while auctions of exclusive experiences were offered on Trade Me.

The money raised – more than $18,000 – allows AWIS to offer the Women in STEM scholarship until at least 2021. Fundraising continues until the end of October, with more Trade Me auctions available and a Givealittle page.

AWIS wishes to thank all the sponsors and donors for the fundraising:
